Functional Dry Needling®

Functional Dry Needling® is not acupuncture, but rather a technique that adheres to a western medicine approach to decrease pain in your muscles. The goal is to restore normal muscle and joint function. This technique is used in conjunction with a comprehensive evaluation that complements some of our other treatment techniques.

The procedure uses a solid filament needle to treat muscle trigger points. These points are a highly localized, hyper-irritable spot in a taught band of skeletal muscle fibers. These muscle trigger points play a role in producing and maintaining the pain cycle. They can alter muscle performance, as well as generate pain along common referral patterns. These points develop in muscle for various reasons, including referred or local pain, inflammation, athletic injury or other causes.

The benefits of needling can be:
• Decreased muscle soreness
• Increased flexibility
• Muscle relaxation
• Decreased pain

Typically, positive results are apparent within 4 to 6 treatment sessions but can vary depending on the cause and duration of the symptoms. Functional Dry Needling® is an effective treatment for acute and chronic pain, rehabilitation from injury, and even pain and injury prevention, with very few side effects.

Functional Dry Needling®, combined with other treatments in our office can help the following conditions:
